The mission of Geriatric Initiatives, Inc. is to provide funding and housing to the New Orleans geriatric/disabled population. The funding may be used for utility bill assistance, supplemental food purchases, rental payments, clothing, adult diapers, or medication co-payments. Funding for housing may be used to supplement existing rental agreements with other entities or for Geriatric Initiatives home sites. Elderly may be defined as anyone regardless of race, gender, or religion over the age of 55. Disabled may be defined as anyone regardless of race, gender, or religion with a medical disability that renders them bound to a wheelchair or confined to a bed. Other disabilities such as: osteoarthritis, prior gunshot wounds with nerve and/or muscular damage, and some cancer diagnoses will be considered on a case by case basis. |
